| Your Winter Skin Prescription |

We can support an improved state of balance throughout the year by making a conscious effort to live in harmony with the cycles of nature and by regularly adjusting our lifestyle and habits to accommodate the arrival of each new season.
.
Seasonal adjustments can dramatically increase your health and vitality.
The winter season shares a number of characteristics with both Kapha and Vata doshas. A cold and damp climate will tend to increase Kapha, while a cold, dry climate will aggravate Vata. Adopting a seasonally appropriate lifestyle can help prevent imbalances occurring.

Exfoliate | Hydrate | Nourish
The cold, dry air and windy, wintery weather all aggravate our body’s air and space elements. The resulting dryness and dehydration means our skin becomes lack-lustre, losing it’s youth-full fullness and glow.
.
Exfoliate | whole body exfoliation is beneficial to reduce excess Kapha and therefore the congestion and heaviness accumulated during the cold, damp months of the year. Removing the rough, dry surface of the skin to expose a fresh new layer creates the perfect conditions for skin to absorb active anti-ageing nutrients (like Sesamol & Vitamin E) and detoxifying and nourishing fatty acids. Try our blood orange, coffee & cardamom Body Exfoliating Paste.
.
Hydrate | the key to keeping our skin hydrated during the winter months lies in maintaining adequate water and oil intake — both inside and outside of our bodies. Drink plenty of warm (or at least room temperature) water during the day, to soothe your Vata as you hydrate your skin. Eat a diet rich in omega 3s and other healthy fatty acids. This will help the skin retain moisture and give your complexion a luminous glow. Think nuts, ground flaxseeds, sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds, fresh coconut, avocado, olive oil, ghee and green leafy vegetables.
.
Nourish | The skin is an important organ of purification and is linked with liver function. The skin has many of the same enzymes as the liver, including those involved in detoxification. Nourish your skin and therefore your liver, through Abhyanga or daily oil massage practice before your bath or shower. This will lubricate, oleate and protect your skin and pacify both kapha and vata imbalances in the Winter months.
Try our Vata Body Oil, a warming blend of black sesame, cardamom and vanilla.
